Lessons from my Garden: A Seed in the Dirt

I started my own garden! I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now and I finally just up and did it. It’s a small starter garden that’s on my balcony, so we have easy access to it and my girls love it! They were so excited to put their hands in the dirt, put seeds in the dirt, and water it. We all sat there and really looked at dirt with seeds in it like something was going to grow at that moment. Even the next few days we walked out to the garden as if something had changed on the surface with as much anticipation and excitement as the first day.

“Why don’t you look at yourself with the same anticipation and excitement that you look at this dirt?” I believe God speaks to me and I do mess up and miss it sometimes because I am human, but this question did not miss. There are seeds of greatness in me, in you. While we all start out the same there are different decisions we all make in order for those seeds to grow into what they were created to be. It doesn’t matter if the seed turns out to be a 100 foot tall oak tree or a small potted succulent they both are beautiful and amazing in the environment it was created to be in.

We are dirt. While dirt isn’t exciting at all in the least bit, the exciting part is what’s in the dirt and given time it will grow. There’s something great, amazing, and even miraculous in us dirt and the way to put our dirty selves in the position for growth to take place is our perspective. Me and my girls could’ve easily did the work of starting the garden and then walked away from it because we didn’t see anything with our eyes. However, we could see beyond the dirt and understand something is going to grow. When we look in the mirror we can easily see our current challenges and pains that makes us dirty. However, when we make the decision to look beyond that dirt we come to the understanding that a seed(s) of greatness, amazement, and miracles lives in this dirt we’ll come to a whole new appreciation for the dirt because it’s necessary for growth. SOS.

Just because it’s not seen doesn’t mean it’s not there. Give yourself the time and care needed then stand back to give space for growth.
